Epoxy vs Polyaspartic: Which Garage Floor Coating Fits Your Home?

Looking for the best garage floor coating? There isn't one answer for every garage. The right choice depends on your slab, how you use the space and what you want the floor to look like.

We install both

Much of what you'll read online is written to sell one side. We work with both epoxy and polyaspartic, so the recommendation starts with your slab and how you use the space, not with the one product we sell.

Epoxy is a two-part resin, mixed on site and applied over mechanically prepared concrete. It's used as the base coat where the system calls for one. Polyaspartic is a different coating chemistry, and it's the final top coat on our systems — except metallic floors, which are finished with a different product.

Both are only as good as the preparation underneath. Whichever you choose, the concrete is ground, fully vacuumed and cleaned dust-free before any coating goes down.

What actually decides between them

These are the questions we work through with you before recommending a system.

  • How you use the space

A garage you park in every day, a workshop, a home interior and a business floor put different demands on a coating.

Tell us what happens on the floor day to day. That, more than the product name, drives the recommendation.

  • The condition of your slab

Cracks, stains, old coatings, repairs and moisture all affect which system makes sense and how much preparation it needs.

Every floor is evaluated first and mechanically ground before any coating goes down, whichever system you choose.

  • Exposure

An enclosed garage is a different environment from a sun-exposed lanai, patio or pool deck.

Any of our systems can be applied indoors or out. For wet or outdoor areas such as pool decks, lanais and patios, Full Flake and Quartz are the systems we recommend most.

  • Timing

How long installation takes and when you can use the floor again depend on the system and the project.

When you can walk and park on the floor is explained on our garage floor coatings page, and we confirm the schedule for your system when we quote.

  • Look and finish

Flake, solid color, quartz and metallic finishes each have a different look and texture.

Metallic & marble finishes are epoxy systems. If a specific look matters most, start there and we'll match the system to it.

  • Relative cost

Solid color epoxy, full flake and polyaspartic all sit in our Essential tier; quartz, metallic and marble move up to Signature.

See the ranges and a ballpark for your square footage on our pricing page.

Can you combine them?

Yes — that's how we build most floors. Flake, full flake, solid color and quartz systems use an epoxy base where applicable and always finish with a polyaspartic top coat. Metallic floors are the exception: they get a different finishing product.

How we make the recommendation

We start from how the space is used and the surface we're coating.

Either way, you'll know which system we're proposing and why before any work starts.

Epoxy or polyaspartic: common questions

Neither wins in every garage, and on most of our floors you get both: an epoxy base where applicable and a polyaspartic top coat. The choice of system depends on how you use the space, the condition of your slab, exposure, timing and budget — the criteria above.

It's mostly about look and level. Flake systems give a textured, speckled finish and sit in our Essential tier (partial flake also has its own lower price point). Metallic & marble epoxy gives a high-gloss, one-of-a-kind finish with movement and depth, sits in our Signature tier and takes longer to install.

Yes. Every floor is evaluated, mechanically ground, vacuumed and cleaned dust-free before any coating goes down.

Every installation is backed by a written warranty covering delamination, loss of adhesion and installation-related failures, when the floor is used and maintained according to our floor-use and care guidelines. Full terms come with your estimate.

Not sure which system fits your floor?
